"Harbour Glimpses" -  mixed media on canvas

Elizabeth Burton

Elizabeth Burton is a Southern Highlands based artist and printmaker,
born in Grafton in Northern New South Wales. After having a career in international
finance and stockbroking, she changed direction and after further study developed a
successful art practice, which has prospered for more than 26 years. During this time
she has exhibited and taught artists’ workshops in Brisbane, Moss Vale
and throughout Australia. Liz’s journey has evolved through rich experimentation in
botanical illustration, watercolours, oils, mixed media and printmaking and
encaustic painting. Underpinning her multi-disciplinary, sometimes multi-media
approach is her mastery of drawing and understanding of the power of the simplicity of line.
This is reflected in the beauty of Elizabeth’s flowers and mixed media landscapes.
Liz works with acrylic paints, inks and collage materials to create different
surfaces and textures in the artwork.  She takes her inspiration from the natural world,
Australian landscape from realism to abstraction. She also enjoys the painterly effects
of using pure colour in her distinctive still life and “part of life” works which draw on the
very essence of the subject without being tied down by traditional approaches.

Elizabeth regularly exhibits at The Milk Factory Gallery, Bowral,
Pinnata Gallery, Dorrigo, and Robyn Bauer Studio Gallery in Brisbane.
Her works are held in private and corporate collections throughout Australia.
Liz has work in archive at the National Gallery of Australia
in the collections from Impress – Regenerate Folio Box -
the inaugural collection, Animalia I and II.

Liz was invited to take part in the celebration of Morandi’s life exhibition in
Bologna, Italy, and has also exhibited in Arte in Movementi  in Perugia, Italy.
She also has work in the following permanent public collections and museums:
Exhibition of the Americas Biennale (University of Iowa USA),
the Naestved International Exhibition of Contemporary Prints in Denmark,
Estampe Belgium and the Art Museum at Nyíracsad Hungary,
several Greendoor International Print Exhibitions in Derbry, United Kingdom.
Liz has been invited to exhibit her work in London, Hong Kong and Cyprus as
well as a solo exhibition in Denmark.
